The DIY Random Tattoo Generator

public - created 06/11/05
The best party game in which you give and receive sharpie-tattoos generated by two tables you create yourself and a great big die. It's fun, I swear.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS:
You could play solitare, or with any number of peeps, but it seems the best with 3-6 preferably tipsy people.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Sheets of paper, one 20-sided die (D20), a standard sized black sharpie with plenty of juice.

GAME-ENHANCING OPTIONAL MATERIALS:
Colored sharpies, extra D20, 4, 6, and 12 sided dice, etc., digital or other camera to document the carnage, tattoo magazines, dictionary or thesaurus if you want to get fancy ideas, beer.

BASIC GAME SETUP:
Begin by labeling one sheet of paper "Descriptive," and another "Subject." Number each sheet 1-20.

Now your'e ready for half of the fun...following is an example of a descriptive and subject table from a particularly drunken round of RTG. You can use these tables, but are encouraged to create your own.

SAMPLE DESCRIPTIVE TABLE:
1. Flaming
2. Sexy
3. Evil
4. Celtic
5. Rasta
6. Melting
7. Fantasy
8. Nautical
9. Olde-English
10. Tribal
11. Winged
12. Satanic
13. Kanji
14. Religious
15. Escher
16. Grateful Dead
17. Scum-Fuck
18. Nazi
19. 3-D
20. Patriotic

SAMPLE SUBJECT TABLE:
1. Clown
2. Snake
3. Castle
4. Flower
5. Swastika
6. Insect
7. Pot Leaf
8. Wizard
9. Tits
10. Skull
11. Pin-up
12. Fairy
13. Guitar
14. Unicorn
15. Flag
16. Wolf
17. Dragon
18. Mushroom
19.Warrior
20. Alien

HOW TO PLAY:
Once you have your two tables, roll the D20 to determine the first "Victim." The Victim rolls the D20 for the corresponding descriptive table word, then rolls again for the subject.

The "Reader" is in charge of calling out the tattoo once both tables have been rolled.

Ideally, an "Artist" is eagerly waiting with sharpie in hand to create his/her masterpiece on the
Victim in a VISIBLE area, usually arms.

The Victim may pass on up to two rolls, however, if the first two roll sets are passed, the third MUST BE ACCEPTED.

(Many of our finest tats, such as the infamous Scum-Fuck Pot Leaf and Melting Swastika were a result of this necessarily humiliating rule.)

Everyone must agree to submit to displaying the artist's work in a visible area, or the game isn't nearly as fun.

Rotate jobs and repeat until each person has had a chance to be Victim, Artist, and Reader at least once, AND everyone has one tattoo from every other player.

----------------------------------------------------------------

VARIATIONS FOR THE ADVANCED PLAYER:

**Multiple Tables**
Got too many sweet ideas for descriptors and subjects? Make as many tables of twenty as you like, and use a die of a corresponding number to choose which table you use.

For example, if you have two descriptive tables, number one of them "1-2," and the other "3-4." Do the same for the subject tables. Use a 4-sided die to determine which tables to generate the final tatto from. If you roll a 1 or 2, use the table marked 1-2, and so on. Always roll for descriptive first. Then continue on as for basic game play. If you make three of each table, use a 6-sided die and number each sheet 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc.

**Dicey Situation**
If you have a 30-sided die, you can make tables of 30, or if you are lucky enough to have the rare D-100, you can really go off the hook...

**Sub-Tables**
One of our favorites...
Create sub-tables for certain subjects, and sometimes descriptors. Example;

Dead Ben rolls up a Satanic Insect. We've made a four-category insect sub-table --
1. Potato Bug
2. Tarantula
3. Black Widow
4. Spider-Man(!)

Ben rolls a 4. The Victim recieves a Satanic Spider-Man tattoo. Sweeet...

You can make sub-sub-tables too. Last night Shadow rolled up "Cartoon Banner." The Banner sub-table was
1. Name
2. School
3. Band
4. Beer Brand

Shadow rolls 3 for Band. The band sub-sub-table was:
1. Aerosmith
2. Motley Crue
3. Rolling Stones
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd (invariably misspelled)

The suspense builds -- he rolls a 4, and I had the pleasure of creating a "Cartoon Lynyrd Skynyrd Banner! (see pics in the photo gallery!)

**Part-of-body and unusual descriptors**
You can get tricky and make "knuckle-tats" into a descriptor, if the Victim rolled this first, the Reader would reverse the order of the tables, in other words, it would be "Alien Knuckle-tats."
"Smoking a Joint," or, "Group of" can act as descriptors. You could end up with "Clown Smoking a Joint," or "Group of Unicorns." These types of specifications can also be a separate table of "Actions." With this, you might get something like, "A pile of (action) Escher (descriptor) Skulls (subject)." HAVE AT IT, KIDS.

**Make up your own rules!**Post them here!**
Go ahead, we dare you. How would you play Strip RTG? Tequila Shot RTG?

**Got a great table? Roll up the funniest tat ever? GOT QUESTIONS? Post them here!**

**TAKE PICTURES!!**POST THEM HERE!!!**LABEL THEM!!**

**Spread the joy, teach your friends to play DIY RTG-- hell, teach your enemies too.**

BACKGROUND:
While having a few pitchers at a Santa Cruz pub, the conversation turned to one of the creative projects myself and Prof. Plague had been involved with, in which we created a random album title generator table to use with a 20-sided die.

I remembered a random band name generator I found on the internet.

I started thinking, "why not make a random tattoo generator?" I instantly got to work on a napkin, and before long we had enough material for many tables over.

Needless to say, we drunkenly ROCKED the sharpies that night, and developed the simple rules for RTG, the soon to be legendary pa-arty game.

**TROUBLESHOOTING**
What's the matter, don't know how to draw an Olde-English Unicorn? You'll figure it out.
